Study: What is vitamin K2 and what does it do?

One of the vitamins in Natriche Immune Sport is vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 contributes to a good course of blood clotting and is good for maintaining strong bones.

What is vitamin K?

Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin. Bacteria in the large intestine can produce this vitamin themselves, but people still need to get the rest of the necessary vitamin K out of food. There are two sorts of vitamin K, vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) and vitamin K2 (menaquinone). Vitamin K1 is found in green leafy vegetables and in vegetable oil. Vitamin K2 is almost not available in our diet and can be divided in several sub-types, of which MK-4 and MK-7 are the most important. Natriche Immune Sport contains vitamin K2 MK-7 because that is the type that has the best and longest lasting effect for the body. The greatest advantage of this is that it is not necessary with vitamin K2 MK-7 to take a new dose every few hours to stay on the right level.

What are the health advantages of vitamin K2 MK-7?

  • Helps to maintain strong bones

One of the most important functions of vitamin K2 is the regulation of the deposition of calcium. In different words; it makes sure that calcium is delivered in the bones and not in the kidneys and blood vessels. It plays an essential role in the bone metabolism and research suggests that it can prevent osteoporosis and bone fractures.

  • Helps prevent heart diseases

The congestions of calcium deposits in the veins around the heart is a huge risk factor for heart disease. Anything that can contribute to reducing those congestions can help prevent heart disease. Vitamin K is thought to prevent calcium from being deposited in the veins, reducing the risk of heart disease.

  • Helps with normal blood clotting

Blood clotting is an important process that should prevent blood loss. In the case of a wound, the blood protein fibrinogen quickly forms fibrin wires that cause the wound to close and stops the red blood cells to pass through. This process involves a number of complicated chain reactions that depend on a number of GLA proteins (clotting factors). Without vitamin K, there is no blood clotting possible.

It is very difficult to get enough vitamin K out of our diet, especially the important menachinon. This means that basically everyone can profit from a supplement with MK-7, especially growing children, women above 40 years and people with an increased risk of heart disease and osteoporosis.

Athletes, people with kidney disease, diabetes or anorexia and people who use certain medications also have benefit from a vitamin K2-supplement.
